    When you say not enough width do mean width across the window or depth to hold the tension rod? I have the same thing where I use tension rods for my windows because I don't want to cover the nice trim. I only have about an inch depth to put the rods and they stay put. My window is really two windows right next to each other and I treat them as one wide window, How wide is your window and how depth do you have to work with?

    Instead of a sheer you could cover the glass with one of those window clings that look like etched glass. www.wallpaperforwindows.com That will give you privacy without hiding your trim.

    @ Mary - yes, there really is nothing to put a tension rod on - very, very narrow. @Norma- thx but this is the original glass -

    I had a similiar situation and hung the curtain from a wooden dowel, then screwed in two cup hooks, one at each end of the window, and hooked the dowel over them. Because the sheers were light weight, I was able to get by with a fairly small dowel and small cup hooks.

    @Sarah Jackson I LOVE the idea of the cup hooks! Even when we think we have a good solution to something someone else sees it from a different perspective.Isn't that what Hometalk is all about? I have been trying to figure out how to hang grommet panels in my sun room on the old railings from vertical blinds. Screwing in larger cup hooks may be my solution. See that, you game me another project to start !

    You could also use a bungee cord with the cup hooks. Works great when you want a sheer behind a drape to just leave the drape open.

    Perhaps install a small but very sturdy hook on each side of the inner window edging, then get a curtain spring much like used for screen door. Run the screen through the top like you would a rod, and another through the bottom seam, and hook from hook to hook, one at the top, and one at the bottom. Or just do the top if you want the sheers to hang loose.

    @No search results.Theresa - what is a curtain spring?
    • Therese C Therese C on Sep 03, 2013
      @Susan Ziemak They used to be called 'curtain wire'. Basically it is a piece of 1/4" spring, cut to the length you need at Lowe's or Home Depot. It will look like a spring used on screen doors. There is no casing or tubing around it. It is just a simple spring. Very cheap and very durable. Measure the window across, then subtract about 2 inches off the width. That is the length you will need and the tension you will want. Make sure the hooks you install are strong enough to withstand continual tension. I use eye hooks with a screw in set of at least one inch of possible. Tell the person at the store what you are using it for and what your walls are made of and they will be able to help you get the best eye hooks for the job.
