Awkward kitchen cabinet storage dilemma

Amanda
by Amanda
As you can see in the photos I have this kitchen cabinet with ample space but the location of it is quite awkward. It is located next to my stove. As you can tell from the picture of the inside of the cabinet there is an opening on the right. It leads straight into the side of my stove. It's really awkward and hard to reach all the way back in there to get anything out. I thought about putting a lazy susan but wasn't sure that it would be the most beneficial way of utilizing that space wisely. I'm usually pretty good at in-visioning ways to use, craft or repurpose just about anything. Who would've thought a cabinet would be my kryptonite! 😉 I was just curious about any ideas your brilliant minds have about how to use the space more efficiently. (I live in a small condo and my kitchen is very small.) I have to use every inch of space that I have for kitchen necessities & food as I do not have a pantry. Thanks So much for your help!!

I have this same problem, except I don't have a shelf going across the top. Maybe some plastic containers or baskets to pull things out from the back? Sorry if I'm not much help, you're not along.

Heck, knowing I'm not alone is helpful lol... And containers/baskets are a nice idea. Thanks for your suggestion!

I have lived with this same problem for over 55 years! Heard about storage baskets which are engineered for this situation (Rev a shelf) but they are really, really pricey and do not come in the size I really need. You know, if it doesn't realy solve the problem, it is way too much money. So - I measured carefully and went to a number of places before I found the proper size baskets. I had to buy at two different stores to get the four baskets I needed and it took a couple of months of looking everywhere I went. Be sure to measure from the top of your shelf to the top of the door opening and from the bottom to the shelf above it to get the depth of the baskets. Then the width of the door opening and distance to the back of the storage area, etc. to be sure your openings accommodate the baskets. Cannot believe it has taken me well over half my life to figure this out!

I personally detest Lazy Susans...They are hard to clean under or behind, and I find that the round (or pie) shape is a waste of space. I always hated how things toppled on or off of them...to each his own...you either hate them or love them. I have a corner cabinet similar to your pic, and I like what the company did. Picture your top shelf a bit lower, and then add another shelf perpendicular (or left to right) above it. Then add storage like Pat Russell mentioned, on all 3 levels. Mine has an old rectangular storage container with the lid missing on one shelf, and a recycled fridge drawer on another, I store my measuring cups etc. in them. They are easy to pull out. In the very back I store items I don't need too often.

There are better solutions than a lazy susan. Go to some cabinet stores in your area and ask what they can suggest to retrofit a blind corner,

Had the exact cabinet for 40 some years plus a drawer above that you had to open the oven door to open the cabinet drawer! I always just used it for all the goodies that maybe I used once a year or hardly ever! ( I know it was time to pitch) and went in with a flashlight lying on my side to retrieve anything ( not a pretty sight) Good luck Amanda
