Sea urchins are a big trend in home decor and a perfect way to add glam to any place. But as classy as they look, they can also be quite expensive. So, if you don’t want to splurge but still want one here’s how to make a DIY version.
Supplies
Roll the clay into a small ball. Place it on a hard surface and press gently to get a flat base.

Starting with the center insert the toothpicks by pushing in about one-fifth of the length.

Follow the curvature of the ball and keep inserting the toothpicks.
If you use self-hardening clay let it dry and if it’s the oven-bake type, bake it following the instructions given on the packaging.
Check if all the toothpicks are properly set. Pull out any loose ones and glue them back in.
Once the whole thing is ready place it on a piece of paper and spray paint it. The paper helps to rotate the object while painting without actually having to touch it.
All it takes is a few inexpensive supplies and a little time but it’s totally worth it!
Place them in a bookshelf, on a coffee table or atop a mantel and enjoy!
Suggested materials:
  • Oven-bake clay
  • Toothpicks (or wood dowels if you don’t want pointy ends)
  • Spray paint

Where do you buy the cement clay, and can you use a different kind that doesn't have to go inside the oven? This is really beautiful and I would love to make it for me and also give them as presents 🤗

You've just given me a brilliant idea to make a stylish toothpick holder for my guest house! I will just make the ball & prick the holes & bake it without the sticks, then I can fill it as necessary! Thank you!
