  • Can you post a pic? You can creatively tie into the counter. How high is counter? how high are the bar stools?

Thanks for the help. I have Bar Stool Height Table and Chairs that are tearing up my walls42 inches. Chair Rails- the perfect solution, except on the third wall my counter is at 36inches. How do I reconcile that?
  • Okay tossing around a couple ideas~ one is put the chair rail all the way around at 42" even at the bar and paint the bottom half a rich color to blend in the beautiful countertop. There is also an idea, not sure if it will work but make a chair rail 6" wide all the way around to it sits on top of the counter like a backsplash. and still paint the bottom a different color or the top so the room comes alive. To make the chair rail that wide start out with a 1x8 and have a lowes or home depot cut the board to be the 6" width. then layer trim on top of that. I think it will look good but everyone has different tastes. I would even think about staining it to match the cabinets too. You do have white trim but that is okay. Designing is personal and there really are no rules. If I come up with any more ideas I will post again.

Thanks, I toured Home Depot's trim isle this week and they had plenty of options, then I remembered that I was making tile for the back splash, so why couldn't I use it as the "Chair Rail". That way when I got to the back splash it would just continue across the room. What do you think?
    • @Tamara S that is a good idea. I have seen it and maybe add some wood trim too. That way it ties in everything. I have seen tile in a home once that had a tile chair rail and it looked unfinished so I would experiment with some small trim on top and bottom to hide edges of tile.

The back splash tiles are 2" x 4" we were experimenting with texture and colors. Lights, darks. . . decided to use them all! Do you think it would be over-powering to use them as the Chair-rail??
    • @Tamara S I think it will look good. You made a good choice in tiles. They will really pop if you change the white walls to a soft beige/taupe (Woodrow wilson putty or even oatland subtle taupe by Valspar are 2 I have used for renovations. With this tile and your accessories it looks very close to a tuscan feel. Encase the tile in wood like a small cove molding or decorative pieces to finish the look. This tile goes great with your accessories. Have fun.

Do you have any pictures/posts of the finished product? It seems like it would be really nice.

Yes, I ended up just butting the Chair Rail up to the Back Splash. It seemed the simplest solution and I really wanted the hand made tiles to be the center piece in the room anyway. Thanks for asking, T

That's lovely, with the greens bringing it together. Thanks for sharing.
