DIY Fall Table Runner

This is an easy DIY project that uses two things. Dollar store fake flowers and a glue gun with glue sticks. {silicone fingertips are handy too} Since it's turning fall, I picked soft fall colors of floral bunches and added a couple of bunches of fall leaves.
Then I completely took the flowers apart and stripped the leaves from the stems.
My table is 72 inches long. The final runner measures 84 inches and is approximately 13 to 14 inches wide.
It was a blast to make!!!
Step 1: I used 19 dollar store floral bunches. Counting wasn't my concern when I bought them. Our community has one dollar store and it's small. The selection wasn't great. I bought all I could find in soft autumn colors.
Step 2: Completely take apart the flowers. Remove the heads from the stems. Then remove the bottom and top plastic pieces to separate the layers of petals. The green leaves of the flowers I saved in the bag for another project. For the autumn leaf bunches, you can strip off the fabric leaf from the stem or "plastic veins." The stems and veins from the autumn leaves are kept to make more burlap leaves. The how to make burlap leaves post is on Hometalk and the website. :)
Step 3: I separated the flower petals and leaves into small, medium and large piles. Then using the larger petals I hot glued petals together to make a base the size of the runner. Simply add the smallest amount of hot glue to a petal and glue to another petal. Continue filling in until you reach the size you need.
While gluing the large petals some petals covered the hole left where the plastic was holding the flower together. Then start adding the medium petals into any gaps.
Step 4: Finally I added the small petals. Any holes from the plastic still showing were covered with small petals. It was fun to recreate "new" flowers. The petals of a daisy were glued to the center of a peony!
I completely took the flowers apart for two reasons. One, so they would go farther. Two, so centerpieces and dishes could still sit on the table. I've used this technique for two other projects. A banner of spring flowers to hang over our front door and a smaller all white one to drape over a cake plate. You could also make a smaller one for the base of your centerpiece.
