I love my kitchen and the sparkling clean look of the white tile, but I can't figure what would look best as a backsplash. Help!
This is one half of my kitchen.

Many have different opinions of style. I can visualize a glass tiled backsplash that is offered in many colors , shapes and sizes.

There are so many options available now. I would begin with some basic Internet searching to see what interests you.
  • We had almost the same colors but our cabinets were darker... we put in a laminate floor over the white tile floor as i hated the white... and used faux stone colored backsplash (smart tiles) that sticks right over the old white tile.. without the mess of removing the old... this is a temp. Fix til we can afford a total gut in a few yrs. They have worked great been 3 yrs and still great. Hope this helps

    • Best part is they go over top any surface... we had 4" tile on backsplash and would have had to tear iut. But this went right over it. Then we caulked edges. That was it

If you like updating and changing the look, consider wall paper. So many patterns and easy to change out every few years for an updated look.

Something in a very light terra cotta would warm up the area. Black and white tiles would make a classy and very updated statement. The ideas are limitless with a white countertop. You can even chose a specific color if you want to lock yourself into a color scheme for a while:)

My home is in Tuscan colors now, the black sofa in the picture is gone now, so I don't have to match the black anymore.

We have similar colored cabinets, with white quartz counters, and we put yellow/gold glass 1" tile including going up to the ceiling around our window, grouting it with special sparkle grout for glass tile. It looks fantastic and the glass tiles sparkle, brightening the room We have alot of white trim in the room as well - it is very bright and welcoming!

I believe Angie's right. You really need a color that would make your kitchen pop.

I can't tell by the photo, but is the back splash already tiled? If so, you can paint them. I painted a white tiled backsplash about 6 years ago in one of my rentals and it still looks just as good today as it did then. If it's not already tiled, I would try for some color and texture. Personally, I'd stagger a small rectangular metal tile with small rectangular white tiles. Like the commenter above, I'd get a metal tile that matched my cabinet hardware and then randomly break up the white tiles with a metal one. Super easy since all these small tiles come on mesh these days & you just cut out the tile you want to be metal and then place the metal one on the mesh. Since metal tiles are way more expensive than the ceramic tiles, this will give you a metal splash without breaking the budget. I've done this trick with glass tiles & with marble as well.

There's one row of white tile, as a backsplash, around the sink top, then painted wall up to the bottom of the cabinets.

Or the small tile blocks that look like opals. They add dimension and tiny bits of color.

That sounds pretty. Thank you for the idea.

I agree you need color. Consider glass tile which come in a variety of colors. Pick your favorite color from different hues.
  • I think using the metal (tin, copper) tiles would add a punch of color and class. Good luck!

Good suggestions overall, I would stick to white or neutral if you are using something more permanent or expensive. You can always add colour through accessories. I have always regretted putting coloured tile, because it becomes dated so quickly.
