it looks like the parasol mushroom to me. I have never seen it growing in the pot like that. How big is this mushroom?

It is a toadstool probably, not a mushroom and so whatever you do, don't try to eat it as it will be poisonous! The probability is that the potting mix in the pot is too wet. When there is too much moisture, you get fungi, toadstools and mushrooms are a type of fungi. I think you are probably over watering this plant. Either that or it needs better drainage. Try putting the pot up onto some pebbles or removing the saucer as the water needs to drain properly from the potting mix.

@Ester Age It won't hurt your plants, but if I were you I would put on some gloves and pull the toadstool out and dispose of it carefully in your garbage. You don't want your pets getting hold of it either as it is probably poisonous.

BTW we had several weeks of heavy rains and our back yard, which is mulched, was covered in about 3 different varieties of toadstool as a result. Now that the weather has changed and no rain for a few weeks, the toadstools are dying off.

@Cheryl stanley yes, the leaves fold at night, so that's what it is, a prayer plant... thanks!

you're welcome, ester! glad I could help! I have had the same prayer plant for going on 30 years and, being an air force wife, I have moved it around the country a lot!
