Rusted out tub at drain assembly

during my renovation of an older home we purchased I removed the cruddy drain assembly that appeared to have a full tub of caulk around it. The steel tub is rusted out at the drain, so the new drain is too small for the hole. Is there a fix for this on a steel tub or a larger drain assembly or does the tub have to be replaced?

  • I know of no repair for the tub. They do not make larger drains. I would suggest that perhaps if you want to save on some cash, to have the tub lined. The guy comes out and measures the tub and in a few days comes back with a liner that is glued into the existing tub. Once done you can tile or have them install a pre made tub surround that matches the new liner.
