We leave home a lot. How do we keep mold and mildew from growing when A/C or heat isn't on high

Our home is also on a slab, but we have window ac units. We've discovered by running them on dehumidify rather than the standard cool, they perform better, the house stays cool and the mold/mildew situation is greatly reduced. You also need to check for leaks or where water might be pooling that's creating an environment for those things.

Thank you Catherine and Lisa for such prompt answers! Catherine, I don't think our a/c, furnace unit has a dehumidify switch, lucky you!. Will look for Damp Rid!

@Margie Ah, you have central then, don't know as I think the window type are lucky, but it sure beats none on a hot day. LOL

I was told by HVAC guy to keep the fan on on the furnace. Also use a furnace filter that is accordion type for allergies. I do this in my 2 story with a basement and no longer need a dehumidifier.
