    Back in the 70's this is exactly what I would do to decorate my house, it was cheap and you could use the crates for packing when you moved.

      @Audrey L Using them to pack when you move is brilliant! I would use inexpensive brackets to attach them together and then anchor to the wall, though. They could still easily come apart for moving, but would be more stable meanwhile.
