My Bathroom faucet is leaking where all of the pipes come into it and the joint is. Any tips on how to get it apart and fix it? It's the old style with a round, single handle. I got it partway apart but cant get it the rest of the way.

  • While you can get a new complete valve assembly for this faucet. You are pretty much spending more then the faucet is worth to fix. I would suggest that you simply purchase a new faucet and replace it. However if you want to fix you need to remove the entire assembly and that will allow the plastic section to come out. Once out take it to a local plumbing supplier armed with the manufacture of the faucet. Most should know, but some supply centers have no idea. It will be doubtful if any big box store would stock the parts for repair.

Go to your hardware store - sometimes they will carry a universal handle. If not try online. Recommend Faucets.com or like website and order cheap 4" - single handle lavatory faucet and install yourself.

Remove the knurled nut (the chrome part with the little lines running vertically). Turn it counterclockwise. You can get the repair kit at a plumbing supply shop or a plumbing parts shop. The unit is a Delta (or Peerless) and is rather common on both a vanity faucet and/or kitchen sink. The kit usually will have at the least 3 seats and tension springs (fancy name for a washer which is neoprene) and the white plastic which you see in the picture. Watch carefully when you disassemble to know the order in which to re-assemble. Especially be careful to put the key molded on the side of the white plastic into the key slot. Do not jam it or screw the knurled nut on awkwardly or you will ruin the white plastic part and hence a leak. The kit has a "wrench" to do some of the work. The hardest part of the job is getting the knurled not off and the "seats" properly in position.

Just replace the faucet, they're not that expensive & it will save you time & frustration.

Buy a new faucet. I spent about $25.00 at Lowes, for our outside sink. Much cheaper, and less of a headache than trying to fix one. Your faucet looks like a Delta...no value because it is a common faucet used in kitchens and baths. It's not hard to replace. I'm single and I've learned to do home improvements with out hiring someone. Good Luck
