Pickles or decoration?

My husband recently inherited his Grandmothers pickling crock and her recipe. He would love to make some but there is a crack in the side...is there anyway to seal this like maybe using wax or is it only good for decoration now?

Crockery is repairable, but I would suggest going with decoration in this case. You run the chance of potential food contamination otherwise. You can always get another crock so you can try her recipe and have both.

Kathy....I would go with decoration too BUT I would apply a "band" around it as well. IF this crock has a special spot of meaning for you hubby...then he wants to "preserve" it for time.Use your imagination girl! Dress this "pickler" up and "have a story to go along with".....when it is passed on from your home. Good luck and show us what you come up with.

Thank you Ladies...I already have an Aunt looking for a new crock for us, she has ton's. But I have to agree...decoration is the better way to go with this one. Thanks again. :)
