Chalk board fridge doors

This is the fridge that I have and I want to paint the doors with some chalkboard paint. I was just wondering if anyone has done this and how it turned out. Or if anyone has any suggestions on how to do this. The doors are stainless.

Why ruin the look of the fridge with permanent and somewhat tacky looking chalk paint? What you're best off doing is getting a thin piece if ply or MDF to our size requirement. You could place a nice border on it and get some strong magnets to attach to the fridge thus allowing you to remove or relocate at will.

Have you thought about using chalk board contact paper instead of paint it? If you don't like the look or tire of it, you can just peal it off.

I agree I would not paint this with chalkboard...I have chalkboard paper like @Z mentioned...I think would be better...Cannot repaint back to a chrome finish when done. I also agree with @Leevers if you decide to add something might even make decorative edges and attach with strong magnets. If the paint is scratched up terribly, or worn down or really shows wrong then painting it might not be so bad but the one you showed looks perfect.

I painted my 33 year old upright freezer with black chalkboard paint and I love it but as I said it is 33 years old it still works but it needed to be painted. On the other hand I agree with Leevers don't paint it, it will be permanant

Thanks all! I really like the idea of the contact paper and I am going to check into that! Please note that the pic is a stock photo and not my actually fridge. Although, it is still in good condition, it is far from being brand new. It is probably about 8 yrs old! lol! Thanks so much for the ideas!

Renee - You might also consider a clear dry-erase coating such as IdeaPaint. We have put this on office walls where the occupants did not want to mar the decorator color scheme. You will have a smooth, slightly glossy clear surface that you can use dry erase markers on. And you will not have to worry about chalk dust!

@Calco Painting Thanks! I will check into that! And, good point about the chalk dust! lol!

I've never been a big "stick lots of things on the fridge" person..Yes you're right..no kids! I have one side of my fridge exposed and I do put things on the side but leave the front since my kitchen looks soooooo small already adding a lot to it on the fridge would just really look mess to me. good luck and hope to see your final results!

there are some really cute looking chalkboard decals that you could use too. I've seen them on Fab.com, joss & main just google it....
  • Contact has chalkboard paper that can be adhered to the doors then removed later on down the line... That might be a better solution!

I spent most of my adult life as a spray painter in an aircraft factory- you can't paint stainless! It rejects all kinds of paint including epoxy. If you think about it, the manufacturer wouldn't have gone to the extra expense for stainless if he had wanted to painy - it's cheaper &less work!!
  • you could buy or make a chalk board the perfect size and attach with industrial Velcro.... what I have done is get a cabinet door to match your kitchen, chalk paint it and use the Velcro, it looks really good... also used extra cabinet doors on dw & stove
