Need ideas for flooring for the bedroom.

My bedroom needs a real bad makeover. rugs are old, dirty, and buckled. I seen the paper bag floors and loved the idea, ease and inexpensive, but to my dilemma there is subflooring with nails every inch or so. There is wood flooring underneath but its gapped in some places. I Would love to have hardwood floors, no more rugs. but have very limited finances. I thought about painting the subflooring then put a coat of polyurethane,but don't know if all the nail will show through. Would love some ideas with low cost and easily done.

Debi, with limited funds, you still have many options to do. A floating laminate floor still is a great deal to think about. Lumber Liquidators has some pretty nice stuff that looks great for some very low costs. Much lower then the HD or Lowe's stores sell. It may only cost you 2 or 3 dollars a square foot and perhaps even less on some of their flooring. To do anything else such as painting and all the prep necessary for poly etc you may end up spending just as much doing it that way. Laminate floors are not all that hard to do. The people at the store will be able to show you quickly and just how easy it is to install one.

The best budget friendly way yo go would be to use the sub flooring. You could buy a can of spray paint that adheres to metal. Spray all the nail heads with a color that matches or is close to the one you will paint the sub-flooring with. I'd seal it with a matte polyurethane The second option would be cover the floor in a wood-look vinyl. I had that once and everyone would say "I love your wood floors". They couldn't tell it was vinyl. Good luck with your project. If you can let me know how it turns out.

cheap fix sink/set all the nail heads and putty with durhams water putty. Fill all gaps with the same. Then apply your bags and poly over them cost 5 bucks for putty 2 gallons of poly 65 bucks and you are done provided you have a oil based roller and oil brush. You will need 10+ coats of poly and allow for drying times. Good luck! its labor intensive. But labor is free right?

@Debi Cannon You could still do the paper bag floors. The nails aren't an issue as the paper bag floor will hide them. As far as the gaps you can fill those with a wood putty and then give it a sand once it's dry. I ripped up the carpet in the living room of my previous house and did this and it turned out great.
