wrap the top of the tips in saran wrap.

I have used small piece of foil to wrap the top stub. And previous tip said to always separate each banana from the others....hence you have the stub to wrap. Also I try to buy some with a little green still on them and one that is ripe to use the next day.

I've had luck with refrigerating my bananas. The skin turns black but the inside keeps very well.

As soon as my bananas reach the ripeness I prefer I place them in the fridge. The skin darkens, but the fruit will hold for several more days just the way you like it.

Separate the bananas and put them in the front of the fridge. They keep for a week. If you like a banana in the morning take it out the night before.

Don't forget to let folk know that the banana skin will blacken when taken out of the fridge, but the banana inside skin is fine.

If you cover the end of bananas where they are joined securly to keep air from reaching the part that was torn from tree, it will help them not to turn as quickly.

Found these two options on Pinterest: 1) Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster. Keep them on the counter, or in a basket with holes or openings to allow air to circulate; and 2) Wrap the crown with just a little plastic wrap. The bananas will stay fresh for nearly a week longer than normal. Keep bananas stored on the counter and away from other fruits and veggies because they produce a large amount of ethylene gas which can cause other fruits and veggies to spoil faster.

i tried separating them or wrapping the stem like Lyne says but it doesn't work for me , next i'll try the refrigerator ...but i'm skeptical ....

Bananas actually grow bottoms up. So store them with stem down and tip up. I also advise keeping them in their original cluster. Oddly they can ship for months, sit in the market for weeks, but the day you get them home they want you to throw them an Irish wake within days.

I like to buy bananas not yet quite ripe and hang them on a 'banana tree' - they will usually last for a week.

There is another solution.Wash, slice, and freeze them!

I always wrap my end with press n' seal very tightly, so that no air gets to them. What I've noticed is the more warm, carbon dioxide-ridden air gets to the "damaged" part of the stem of the banana, the quicker they turn brown. I also keep mine on a hanger, and in a darker corner of my kitchen. This has worked for me for years. Good luck!

we buy green/yellow ones [not totally yellow] -- separate bunch -- put into fridge -- peel will look brown -- banana is still good -- keeps about a week or so

Similar to Wendy's response....I separate the bananas, cut small squares of saran wrap, lay the end of the banana in the middle of the wrap and twist it tight.
