DIY Leaning Mirror

When you live in a small space one of the ways to add visual room is through the use of wall mirrors. I liked the look of long leaning mirrors that sit on the floor and lean against the wall such as this one from West Elm or this one from Pottery Barn. Instead of purchasing the mirror I decided to outsource it to my husband to create a similar inexpensive version.
He purchased two 24" 1 x 6 pine boards for the top and bottom of the frame and two 58 and 1/2 inch boards for the sides. You can have them pre-cut to your specifications at Home Depot or Lowes. For the back a piece of plywood was cut 17 1/4" x 61 1/2." The finished height of the mirror was 69.5" tall by 24" wide.

First the inner side of the frame (that would hold the mirror) was routed with a 1/4" bit set at a 1/4" depth. The mirror we used was 1/4" in thickness to fit inside the routed edge.
Then the wood was stained with Minwax Dark Walnut, and a coat of polyurethane applied afterwards.
A krig jig was used to drill the holes to attach the wood in the mirror's frame. Then the negative space for the mirror was measured inside the frame.
We purchased the mirrored glass at a local glass supply store, Capital City Glass. I've seen some versions of a leaning mirror done with a smaller Ikea mirror, but I wanted a taller mirror with thicker glass for a more sturdier look.
