What to do to this interesting old table??

Suggestions are welcome. I think this could be beautiful- with your help!
This table was stripped and perhaps not cleaned well enough Some residual whiteish stuff has appeared while in storage.

Really like that table, I had one that the stripper had not been cleaned off and had dried on, I reapplied and it came off.

Sand off the existing finish,clean and decide if you want to stain or paint the piece. Remember whichever you decide to do it will have to be protected.

Sand. Clean with tack cloth to remove all dust, paint it white or black and edge it with gold including the little wood medallions . You could dry brush the gold with a scant bit of white or black to make it look old. It is a beautiful table.

I like wood natural. Only reason to cover it up in paint is bad looking grain. Sand off the stains to original wood. If the grain looks good then either stain and apply some clear varnish. or leave natural and put on a light coat or 2 of sealer. Use steel wool between coats if you get drips or splotches of sealer. I've also used bowling alley wax in the same way.

you can I think I'd stain the top and paint the base. You've got to get that old paint off or more even 1st though.

Do you think the white stuff is a mold? If yes, take proper care to remove it FIRST. It sure has a lot of character, it could turn into a really charming piece.

It appears someone got tired of trying to stip off the old paint. You may find yourself in the same boat. One idea would be to utilize the old paint as a base and rub on a secondary color to create a shabby chic look. I also like good natural wood, so maybe the top could be fully redone, as it would be the easiest as it is a flat surface. The piece is not a valuable antique so even if fully restored natural wood is not worth more than a hundred dollars or so at best so you have to decide how much work and to what repurpose you want to put it.

Sand it an clean really good, use a gloss stain of the same color of the table you're love even more, enjoy

I'd definitely paint the bottom and refinish the top in a dark stain. It'll be gorgeous! I'd buy it, but my son nicknamed me termite because I love anything in old wood.
