Our kitchen cupboards transformed

This is the story of how we were able to transform our kitchen cupboards. Same cupboards, same cupboard doors, just a brand new look on a little bitty budget.
From oak cathedral to cottage style white. Same cupboards, same cupboard doors...brand new look!
A before picture of our kitchen with cathedral style oak cabinets. They just didn't fit our cottage and the kitchen was very dark, however new ones weren't in the budget.
This is a view of our kitchen after the process is complete. Each door was removed and planed to 1/2" thick to allow for the 1/4" bead board and 1/2" frame boards. They were then glued and nailed in place.
Then each door was primed and painted. The color is vanilla custard and several coats of water based polyurethane were applied over the paint to protect the finish.
We purchased new cup pulls for the drawers and door pulls for the doors and painted the hinges flat black to match. All the new pulls were purchased for under $2 each.
The result was a far brighter kitchen that fits much better with our country cottage style. We love our new look and though many hours were spent on this transition, the time and work were so worth it.

I would give anything for the oak. It looks so much warmer. I have white because it was cheaper. Wish I could have had the Oak. I wish the Oak wasn't so expensive to get.

Very nice. Wish I could do that with my oak cabinets. They are worn and the veneer is getting rough from water dripping on sink base. Having new cabinets installed...most likely white with beadboard panel just like yours. Awesome job!!
