I had so many old planters and I had recentally had a family member move close who loved sea shells. I saw something similar on Pintrest where they made their planters look like stone "I did those too" my were a bit different (as I put my touch of craftiness to anything I do) but this is what I came up with when I started this one.
From Plastic 2 Nautical
I spray painted it with a light sandy brown for plastic paint for plastic. (Sorry the pic doesn't show it) I didn't take pics in steps)
The Before Tan spray Paint
I stayed it wrapped around it a mesh brown netting (this is what usually is used for making home made wreaths) I couldn't get it tight due to the old shape of the planter so I went around and just made it loose at each of the four corners. Use a hot glue gun to do so. It was loose throughout the sides so I bunches it up in spots hot glued it and glued shells it those areas and ensure it was tight all around the sides.
Side View
I had some $1.00 store Halloween netting I spray painted light tan to give it that nautical netting look and draped it around the top it hide any rough looking uneven spots.
The Back
I hot glued a big starfish hot gluded that in the front and added a few pieces of little coral and a few more shells. I took some rope look close to nautical brought it at Lowes Improvement. It was thin so It took about 5-6 strands and I beaded them together and wrapped that around the top. Making a nice loop in the front letting the strings hang.
The Front
Sprayed it with clear protectant let it dry.

The plant inside of it has its own drip pan so the planter itself doesn't get ruined if taken outside in the rain so my aunts plant can get some good rain water.
