Since it is one big area with the kitchen and has 2 story walls, what colors would be this year's pick in earthy natural colors?

Hi Kathryn, There isn't really a certain color that is dominant beyond the general class of "earth tones." I would avoid something that is really dark. It might make the place look more like a cave than you want. An off brown or grey-green might go well with the stonework around your fireplace there.

Pick a color that makes you happy everytime you enter the room. I have seen some amazing shades of green lately.
