Take a thrift store purchase and turn it into an elegant centerpiece for your home!
We found a beautiful hutch for $30 at a thrift store that just needed a little redesign. With minimal materials, we created something magnificent.
First, clean your piece. This will help the paint stick, and will clear off any dust or mold that may have accumulated on your thrift store piece!
Put on one or two layers of a base coat. We used eggshell white!
Add a second layer with a different color. The more different your color is, the more dramatic your effect will be at the end.
Rub sandpaper along the edges of the furniture to create a distressed look. This will allow you to see the first paint layer underneath the second color you painted on. You can even distress down to the wood.
Cover your finished product with wax, so the remaining chalk paint won't dust off.
You now have a gorgeous new centerpiece for your house! We painted ours a French Provincial blue style, and put it in our neutral French-themed dining room. How Magnifique!

I'm not a furniture expert and I mean no disrespect.i don't understand how sawing off the drawer fronts would remove the diaper smell. Also could tsp have helped with both the mold and smell?

I have this complete set in my granddaughters room. I was thinking about painting it. I would also like to keep the gold. Love yours, it is beautiful.
