Primitive Fall Mantle At the Small House Under a Big Sky

Decorating the Autumn fireplace mantle this year made for a primitive feeling in our Mid-Century Ranch home. I began by working with my husband's black power gun that hangs over the mantle and the hand-forged hooks he made in his blacksmith shop. Then I gathered some favorite, vintage, wooden items; a chalk painted candle box, a berry box, my favorite green kitchen scale and brass oil lamps. Then I added a round willow wreath I picked up for half price at Hobby Lobby and a wooden cutting board. Next I am painting that old brass screen!

The willow wreath and my favorite green scale.
Hand-painted candle box painted in Michigan Pine chalk paint, distressed and waxed. Love!
