My dog Skooter was an escape artist. My wood fence was about 8" off the ground, no matter what I put down to keep him from escaping, he found a way. So my solution, was landscape timbers and wooden stakes. I put two timbers on top of each other, and held them in place with the stakes. Also you can usually get free concrete cylinders from Geotech companies in your area, they weight about 25-30 lbs. each.

I have an Airedale & we tried everything. Finally put up electric wire fence. After 1-2 shocks he learned. It has been turned off for 3+ years. We go camping & put a clothes line around camper @ park & even when he sees a squirrel he just barks or whines. People laugh when they see this 95# dog fenced in by a rope/wire. When hiking if we find a downed fence we have to lift it up to help him through. The yard looks great.
