It's really hard to tell from your photos, but it looks to me like your mint has flowered. Did you rub the leaves and smell them?

I agree Rhonda, I thought it was ageratum as well

I have this in my yard. It is very invasive. Took over our whole flower bed. It spreads like wild fire!! Have it planted where it can go wild now and it looks beautiful when blooming.

The photos make it hard to see anything clearly but like you I thought it might be ageratum but I don't think so. I've never seen ageratum with long flower stems- it's usually just a mound. Even the leave stems in the pictures are longer than ageratum is. Otherwise, I have no idea what it might be so I'm absolutely no help at all! :-)

@Cyndi Neumann try to take the photos from a little further distance. I think you are a little too close in an effor to get better detail, but there is some blurring making it a little difficult to actually see the detail.

This looks just like the Ageratum that takes over my flower beds every year. It adds beautiful fall color, but I have to rip it out by the handful in places where I do not want it to grow.

It is very invasive......get rid of it NOW or you will kick yourself later!

Yes, it is a native plant that popped up in my garden bed by my bridge to the porch. I have seen them on the roadsides, a small purple puffy flower that is hard to photograph! Thanks, Smiles, cyndi

There are a couple of Ageratum that are long stemmed and are great cut flowers...this site has a good photo of one type. http://www.edensbotanicals.com/ageratum-blue-horizon-hybrid/ They do have petals on the flower like an Aster...kind of.

Thanks for the information. Having seen the picture from your link I think you're right. I did not know. Well, "they" do say we're supposed to learn something new every day and I've now had mine for today. :-) @The Blooming Gardener
  • That is Ageratum conyzoides, very common weed in my country, Costa Rica, even seems a weed it considers a lucky charm if you harvest in January.

It is so funny that I saw this post! My mother and I have laughed at this same plant that she has had growing in her flower beds for a couple of years. She didn't know what it was, but she had ageratum growing there before---you know, the low-growing kind we're all familiar with. I told her it had to be ageratum, but that it had kind of morphed into something different. Well, I think it's funny that others are wondering, too!

what you have is hardy (perennial) ageratum here is a pic to confirm. and while it can be considered "invasive" remember 1 persons invasion is anothers filler

It is a ageratum. It grows wild in this area. I was just telling my Mother I wanted to dig some up and bring it home.

Thanks so much, they are still blooming by my porch, and that is probably how they got there from last year! I got some beautiful purple asters too this week, my car just had to stop by them! smiles, cyndi
