I am thinking of the same thing , would be interested in some ideas as well . I am thinking of stencils or chevrons on the risers.
  • Once the stairs have been sanded/repaired/cleaned thoroughly, I would use either a porch paint or floor paint (more durable for heavy traffic areas). I have done this in the past, and had my hardware store add a slip resistant additive to the paint also. I always paint every other stair (so you can still get up and down) completely, with 2 coats - letting the first coat dry overnight. As for tools - I have used a brush (for corners) and regular roller, as well as a foam roller. Personally, I prefer to use the foam roller for a smoother finish (and they come in smaller sizes) Good luck - Hope this helps!
  • Oops... forgot to mention that if you aren't using a paint/primer in one, then you should always use a primer before painting.
