I'msorry I'm looking for an easier way to clean the oven myself. I clicked on onepost, but it turned out to hire a company to do it for me. The company is notin my location. It did give me the idea to look in our local phone book to hiresomeone. I'm stage 4 cancer and can't do this hard work myself anymore. Susanif I come across something I think is worth a try for both of us I'll get word to you. I'm new to Hometalk and am still figuring out how it works. I followed you so I'm hoping that will leaed me back to you! Good luckHugs and Smiles

If you don't want to bend your back, I'm afraid you'll have to go chemical!

  • Many ovens have a self cleaning mode. If yours does not, then I would go to Dollar Tree and see if they have AS SEEN ON TV TOTALLY AWESOME CLEANER. it is concentrate and it works. for your situation i would spray it on full concentrate and let it sit and maybe keep spraying. Use paper towels to clean up the gunk and keep applying cleaner. It is strong odor so do not breathe it for too long. but the stuff is strong and it worked for me when someone cooked a pie and did not put a cookie sheet underneath. Burnt on crud came off. Good luck And if you look at Walmart or your favorite grocery store, try Easy Off oven cleaner with no fume. I have had friends say that works great too.

Thank you, Renee for your advice. My husband believes our oven does have a self cleaning, but don't you have to get rid of most of the grease and spills before self cleaning? Thank you for helping Susan Y. & I out.
    • @Robin Ann Before using self cleaning it is a wise idea to pick up and wipe up any chunks, debris in the oven. The self cleaning is a great thing and it will leave ash, that is normal, just wipe it out after oven cools. If you have self cleaning oven do not need to use anything else.

Norma Salinas-Cassity I am sorry I didn't see your post. Thank you for the advice. Do you think the paste you mentioned would work on the drip pans? I'm new and this site makes me feel like I have a bunch of friends who have my back!
    • @Robin Ann If the drip pans remove, I would take them out and soak them in dawn dishwashing liquid like you would do with a messy pan. I am not sure if you are talking about a drip pan in the oven? that should be cleaned by the self cleaning. I have always used self cleaning and left the racks in (some books say that the self cleaning will burn the racks which it does make them dark not shiny new). The self cleaning will take a few hours.

Honey, you go get those kids who messed up your oven and let them do the bending and scrubbing! But seriously, the baking soda/hydrogen peroxide trick really works. Let it sit for a couple hours and then use a spatula or something with a soft edge to easily scrape the mess off. This paste is also what I use when I get a really burned on mess on a pot. In fact, I'm doing it right now to a pot I burned beans in last night.
