Christy I'm with you on that. I can't even be next to my hubby when he uses his oil and vinegar dressing on a salad. It seems every home made cleaner that I've seen has vinegar as an ingredient so I gave up looking and just stick with steam, Dawn dish washing liquid and baking soda. I'm hyper sensitive to most chemicals, but even if I wasn't I don't want to expose my family, our pets or myself to anything that might be harmful.

I would use the liquid DAWN [I swear by it] & the baking soda, with some water using a scrubee on shower doors & rinse well with hot water! Good Luck! :)

@Peg The baking soda is great as a scrubber without scratching and it works well, but you are not getting the disinfecting done this way which is essential in the bathroom.

Hydrogen peroxide (from the first aid aisle) is good for sanitizing solid surfaces. Also a good bleach substitute in laundry for white fabrics.

FRESH lemon or lime juice, is a great substitution for vinegar. It's the high amount of acidity that makes for a good disinfecting homemade cleaner.

@Aunt Hilda The big bottled lemon juice is cheap and good as well. I buy it at discount/$ stores. I mix mine with vinegar and dishsoap, and it cleans just about everything. I find it doesn't really smell like vinegar, but you could probably skip it altogether.

I use dry baking soda on a soft rag or sponge for bathroom tile, the tub, and anything glass that needs to be scrubbed clean. Rinse well. And yes I can't use bleach in my wash so I use baking soda and peroxide to whiten my totally white wash.

If the smell of the vinegar is what you don't like change it. Use lemon or orange peels put them in a large glass jar fill the rest with vinegar. Put in dark cupboard for 2 weeks or longer, shake once in a while. It will no longer smell of vinegar it will be a clean lemon or orange scent with the same benefits of vinegar.
