I have never painted upholstered furniture.. Does it wear off, rub off on clothing, look terrible?!?! I have upholstered dining seats and a small chair, but this wing chair is more then I can take on!!!! Thank you ..
This is the chair I would like to paint instead of upholster

It wont rub off if you use the right paint. Use a fabric dye or acrylic. Will the stripes disappear? Maybe not

I have painted chairs like this and love the look! Use chalk paint - spray the fabric first with water, than use 1/2 water & 1/2 chalk paint (I used Waverly brand from Walmart in the craft section). My chair took 2 bottles of Waverly at $6 each. You can lightly sand in between coats. Paint the wood feet too - this chair will be perfect! This is my chair that I did recently.

I use Dupli Color fabric paint from the auto parts store. Works for auto upholstery!

You can use any paint as long as you add "textile medium" to it. This keeps the fabric supple so the paint will not flake off. For this particular chair, decide what it is you don't like : color vs stripes (personally I love it but then taupe is my fav color! LOL). If it's the colors and you don't mind the stripes, you can use any color paint bearing in mind that the color of the stripe may influence the final color. If you want to hide stripes, go with a dark color such as Navy or Chocolate Brown. Maybe a deep Wine color. If you can, test the colors on the underneath fabric to see if it covers well & the resultant color is not gross. You may have to remove the dust cover on the bottom of the chair.

I have recently painted some fabric chairs with Annie Sloan chalk paint. The fabric takes the paint wonderfully and the fabric is not stiff or uncomfortable once it is finished. Annie Sloan is wonderful paint and there are a lot of tutorials on line for this!

Use chalk paint. No VOC's or smell. It holds up great on fabric!!

It looks great and doesn't wear off, you might still be able to see the stripes in the pattern though.

Doesn’t chalk paint on fabric create “dust” when touched? Do I need a sealer?
