Visited a friend and the water glass left a mark on the bedside table?

The table just seems to have a stain finish that is not waterproof. When I picked up the glass in the morning the water under the glass was tinted the color of the table and now there is a nice white circle. I'm states away so if I purchase a product I need to guess on color. There seemed to be no protective finish on the table at all.

Thank you KMS- the water took the color finish right off the table. I wish I'd taken a photo... I am wondering if there is a finish you wipe on- like shoe polish but for furniture.

@Valeria Kenny nearly all "stains" are wipe on...the trick is to apply it just to the damaged area... when stain is applied outside of the damaged area it will darken that as well and often give a darker circle around the lighter spot which can make it stand out more. As a second issue stain alone is not a "final finish" and need some type of protective top coat...this can be a simple wax, or oil or something more durable like poly. I have done a number of "spot" fixes where very careful stain application is fairly invisible. The easier route however is to refinish the whole top in many cases.

I have a very old cedar chest that gets water marked from occasional over spray or drip from a spathaphylum. I use a Beeswax and orange oil mix called Feed-N-Wax made by Howard Products. It protects the surface and the water marks pretty much disappear.

I have heard white toothpaste or mayo. I haven't tried it though so I am not sure. I don't think it would hurt to try as long as you didn't leave it on there but a sec. or 2

If it's a white ring from the moisture, put some Vaseline (petroleum jelly) on it and let sit for a couple of hours, then wipe off with a soft cloth. If you have taken the finish off down to bare wood, then short of refinishing you can try one of those cover crayons. They won't make it look like new, but it should help a lot. They also have wax in them to help with the shine.
