Do you want to re-stain the piece or paint the piece?

Could mix both. Painting some parts and staining others.

That is a personal decision. Mine would be to strip the old finish and re-stain for an update.

Try ReStor-A-Finish on it since it looks like it is pretty good condition.

Not sure what you are going for?!If it were me,I would just clean,220 sand lightly, clean again, and clear coat it!

I'm currently addicted to chalk painting furniture. You don't need to sand or strip, it's easy to get a nice distressed look, and with new hardware, this piece would look amazing!

Jhroyko- I actually just did all my kitchen cabinets with chalk paint, and used a small amount of gel stain to "distress" it, instead of sanding. I wrapped a small piece of a t-shirt around my finger, dipped it in a little of the stain, swiped it down the edges, and immediately wiped it off with a clean piece of t-shirt. Worked great! Make sure you wear latex gloves, though- you'll stain your fingers!!

Restore a finish would be my choice.
