The best way for you to learn is to watch videos on U-tube first.

Quilting and knitting are quite different. Knitting is meant to stretch, where quilting is made of non-stretchy fabric and secured by additional layers and stitching. I think you are talking about knitted afghans (which can also be crocheted. First try knitting an afghan that is generous enough to cover you while you are lying down. It should extend past yoru feet and up over your shoulders. If you like the result, enlarge the product/pattern on the next one. Just remember to make a 20 stitch by 20 rows sample first to determine the correct size and needle gauge. Good luck... the results will be beautiful regardless of the size. I keep a knitted afghan on my bed and couch for afternoon naps and exhausted grandchildren...lol!

You can knit throws! Learn to knit with a book or youtube, or see if any of your local craft or yarn shops offer classes. In person is usually better! Start small, and soon you'll be knitting big! Another option, if you have trouble with the needles, would be to try loom knitting - easier and you could work long panels to sew together for bigger items.
