Refrigerator Ice Maker Supply Line

I bought and installed an ice maker supply line kit from Home Depot. Looking around I have found these kits use saddle valves with a 1/4" T to supply the water to the fridge. The water pressure to my fridge is just a trickle and I after reading and trouble shooting this I have discovered that manufacturers say not to use saddle valves. I also talked to a plumber who told me the reason is that when the saddle valve pierces the pipe (I have Pex pipe) sometimes the valve becomes blocked by the piece that was pierced. So my dilemma is this...my PEX water supply line is 3/4" versus the usual 1/2" that is used. I am wondering if anyone has found a 3/4" T fitting with a 1/4" outlet for ice maker water supply any where or what anyone out there may have for a solution to this?

Saddle valves are one of the worst inventions ever...the get used by lazy plumbers who want an easy way out. I would cut in a proper tee and install a regular control valve with a 1/4 compression outlet. If you have a hard time getting a 1/4 valve a 3/8" compression valve can be installed with an adapter.

Yes Carol as KMS said cut in a 3/4" to 1/4" T, get the Shark type fittings (User Friendly) they can be as simple as cut, clean and push on, and they have the right product for cutting into existing systems, Good Luck
