Giving a Dark Bookshelf a Brighter Look

This bookshelf seemed to be such a distraction and stood out like a sore thumb. I love wood, but I'm not a big fan of dark wood. This was also more of a vinyl overlay.
I washed the bookshelf down with sugar soap and put Masking tape around it so that I didn't paint the walls. I used Chalk paint. My 1st layer was Antoinette (a very light blush), I let it dry well, about 1hr, and the applied the second coat, Provence a safe green colour.
I did the inner Jane Teal, a smokey blue in the same colour shading as the green. I used vinegar and an old Rag to wipe off small areas to give it the old look.
This is as the book shelf looks now. I love the end result and love adding new knick knacks as I find them.
Suggested materials:
  • Sugar soap, Chalk paint in 3 different colors, vinegar   (Local hardware store)
