I live in an apartment that used to be a luggage/trunk factory. About 10 years ago (before me) the building was refurbished into a loft and 2/3 bedroom apartments. I love my apartment with the original concrete floors and brick walls, etc...The floors I believe were somewhat redone, but there are many places with stains as well as many spots that are porous. I've tried several cleaners as well as some DIY tips. I would love to clean these dark spots if at all possible, tips, ideas, help?

Because concrete is very porous it is very possible the wrong product was used when painting. The only solution I can think of is possible trying to repaint the concrete with the proper primer and paint.

I did not see you say the concrete floor had been painted. But some people answer any and all questions without reading or experience. Most old stains in concrete will not come up. If it has not been sealed you can stain to match, if sealed you can paint or think 'scatter rugs'.

my only experiance is in a carport, oil stains, I used a pressure washer first, then scrubed with dishwashing liquid and pressure washed again. About 80% better than it was. hope this helps.

I would purchase cleaner designed for cleaning concrete garage floors and follow the directions for cleaning the surface. Depending on what the stains are from, some may not come off so you will have to do some sort of painting to cover them. Before painting you need to address the porous areas. Again I would recommend using a sealer for concrete garage floors. As for painting; use a paint specifically for concrete. You can paint the entire floor one color or paint "area rugs" for different spaces. Just be sure to seal the painted surface when you are done painting. Good Luck!

Consider doing this - very easy but for your large area would be time consuming. http://www.hometalk.com/b/713298/flooring
