I guess it would all depend on what your decorating theme is. Go with a complimentary color to the rest of your home. Paint the desk, chair & file cabinet the same color to make them look like they go together. You can always use your desk accessories to 'pretty it up'. Add pops of color with the seat cushion, a photo frame, file folders, etc... Just make sure you make it 'yours' to reflect your taste. I'm sure it will be as pretty as you are.

Thank You Sam Schaefer, still have my hall painted an 80s style, so a lot to change, but it's all a work in progress

Katrina, I would attach wood shutters that you can open and on the inside of those add cork board and or dry erase board.Paint it all the same color of your choice .I hope this will give you some ideas .

Depending on your style, of course, I'd be tempted to paint the fascia (just the fronts, 1" wide parts) along with the book shelf and the front of slide. Edge of desk top too if you've a steady hand. Either black or the dark grey of your file cabinet. You can put a "blond" bamboo placemat or cork squares on top of cabinet to tie in. Paint file. cabinet handles black

It definetly depends on your decorating style, but I would also go with painting it. I'd either use 2 shades of the same color or 2 contrasting colors. The lighter shade on the outer and all the insets the darker of the 2.cant wait to see what you decide.

Start with Rustoleum 2X spray paint. That stuff is bullet proof... Heirloom white at Home Depot. Dries in less than an hour...

Put a back on it, and put cork tile on the middle section and paint the backs up the upper cubbies in that new Shadow paint color. I'd paint it a bright happy color.

Yeah sure you need a computer desk, I let them convince me of that also, then my desk disappeared, the looked and looked they wanted to know where "my office" area was, with that I pulled out my brief case complete with my adriod tablet in it, the whole office/homework issue contained in a 18x20 inch american tourister. That's how.

I'd pick between either going all black, or taking it all white, either way, that entire shine would have to be sanded off for the enamel stick correctly, other wisit will peel on you, they also have antiquing kits, and even spray paint that when applied looks like a stone, and even with that you'd still must sand, that color desk, my bathroom vanity with at color, and that was a whole lot of ugly going on. A trick I do is to sketch it out in the color before actually doing it in the color, that has saved me from a great many 'redo's ' I wish you well, and success with it, you got your work cut out for you!

I'd go with Sagniel's idea of attaching a back with corking or even covered batting with criss crossed ribbon to hold paper and such. Prior to painting it, I'd remove that little top shelf and cut it up to make little shelves in place of the old cd holders. you can attach a small lamp to the top too. Hope my vision makes sense.

Paint the same color as the walls. If it was me I would want to built an enclosure around it and cover with big old doors. The top that sticks out from the stairway could have plants or something for decoration, you could water them easily from the stairs.
  • It really depends on your style. I love color so I would probably paint it a solid color and then paint the recessed areas with a vibrant color (or two). If you really want to go colorful then I would use Unicorn Spit. You could also decoupage a pretty printed paper on the drawer fronts. The possibilities are endless! Good luck!

First Choose a wallpaper you love. Paint the desk a color that's in the wallpaper. Take the backing off of those side pieces. Cut a piece of plywood to fit across the entire back of the top. Apply the wallpaper to the plywood and attach to the back.
