Used Fake Water to Make Fish Bowl, Turned Cloudy, What Went Wrong?

Question

I make accessories for doll houses and the latest is this small fish bowl. It has a plastic plant and fish and gravel, but after sitting overnight, the 'water' turned cloudy. I used the 'fake water' used in making flower arrangements. What went wrong? All comments are appreciated!

Did you rinse and dry the gravel before you put in the fake water? The gravel usually has residue from rubbing around in the bag.

Thanks Mary. I did wash and dry it first. The fake water was the kind that has to be heated, and I am wondering if the heat made color leech from the fake plants. Or maybe the rock? I don't know, but this attempt is ruined for sure.

Or maybe you have chemicals in your water that reacted with the fake water. Do you still have the packaging? Give the company a call and ask what it could have been. They may offer to replace the ruined one or send you a coupon. Can't hurt to ask :)

The fish looks like they are swollen up and the plant melted. Maybe because it was heated?

Depending on the 'fake water' you use it can have a bad reaction with the plastic and sort of melt it and give it that cloudy look. One time I took a glass bowl and filled it with plastic stones and filled with the resin. I was so proud of this, it was the most beautiful bowl I had ever seen. Until the next morning and it was just one big cloud.

You could try making the water in smaller batches and do layers. A lot of resins heat up more in larger quantities.

DISTILLED WATER IS WATER BUT SIMPLY FILTERED UNTIL ALL THE GOOD STUFF IS GONE AND SOME OF THE OTHER ELEMENTS ARE GONE.

Tell them you forgot to clean the fish bowl, maybe they won't notice it's fake water, I have real fish, sorry !
