Mini 'Palette' Monograms

I was recently given a TON of scrap wood. Thanks to all who gave me ideas. I made a few things, but didn't take pics during. But a bag of jumbo craft sticks was among all of the many things I was given. Here's what I came up with.

Cut your sticks

I used 6 sticks. Only 5 are pictured, but you need one to connect them. I cut mine 4". They're easy to cut with scissors, but I scored them first with an exato knife.

Paint the sticks

Next, I painted them. I used Waverly Chalk Truffle paint.

I painted all 4 sides and gave the front and back 2 coats.

Sand lightly

I used 100 grit sandpaper to sand them. Make sure to sand around the edges where they will connect.

Assemble

Assemble the sticks, making sure they are straight. I like to off-set mine a little. When you're happy with the arrangement, tape down.

Split the 6th stick (which I painted and sanded, too) and glue down as shown.

Push them together a bit as the glue dries.

I don't have any fancy machines, like Cricut or Silhouette. I don't even have a computer! I know! Hard to believe!

So I draw my letter and when I am happy with it, go over it with a Sharpie. That way, when you flip it over, you can see where to chalk. Yep. Take a piece of chalk and go over it heavy. Shake off the dust.

Transfer your monogram

Flip the paper right side up and center it on your board. Trace over it with a pencil. Make sure it has a sharp point!

Lift the paper and you will have your monogram! Isn't that easy?!?

Next, I used a Sharpie white water based paint pen. I went over it twice. Take your time here.

Give the monogram a slight sanding, and that's it! I think they are adorable and they will be Christmas presents for many cousins and nieces!

I don't have a question, but I want to applaud you for not letting circumstances stop you from making your craft. I can not write very well and I could use my computer to print a letter for me and then do this. Thank you so much!

  Thank you Polly!! That's very sweet. Don't get me wrong...I would love to have all of the nifty things to create with! But...with one income, yes, I make do. 😘

  I get the financial restrictions. But the good side is that it gives us a chance to be very creative in accomplishing the things we want. I plan on doing this with my grandchildrens pictures. God bless your endeavors.
