looks like old gym lockers to me and that someone fastened them together.

totally agree, put it on the side, with the X side on the bottom....yes, doors open to right. Great storage

Wow, What a great find!!! I would LOVE to have storage like that in my sewing room!! I'd probably contact paper the inside if rusted. Love the color of the unit too!!
