Clear coat for outdoor furniture

What clear coat will endure the sun? I have a picnic table that sits in the sun.

    Try a marine varnish it will hold up better.

    I was also going to say marine varnish,as it actually was made for boats,and holds up so well it's used for many other things..

    yes marine varnish will help. you must face it, though, the sun's rays are brutal on wood. shade the table if you can, else you'll be finishing it every couple of years if you want it to last. another option would be an oil-based finish that doesn't just sit on the top, but that the wood absorbs. looks for one that doesn't need stripping, like "ready seal." you just paint it on at the start of the season, and your wood should last a long, long time.

    No clear coat is UV resistant. The darker the coat the better the UV resistance.

    My brother used lacquer on his..looks great and holds up.
