Ombre is a trend for 2013 and we find it everything from decorative items and fabrics to fashion and hairstyling. You can easily transform an old pale lamb shade to an ombre style using your favourite colors and pallettes.
You will need:
- an old lampshade, preferably white or pastel color.
- water based acrylics or fabric paints.
- a brush sponge, or a simple sponge cut to the size you want.
- a masking tape (if you aren't familiar with painting stripes).
- plastic gloves to protect your hands, if you use a simple sponge.
- old newspapers or magazines' pages to put tools and materials.
- a plastic dish or plastic egg cartons (they fit completely in thiis project)
Steps
1) Choose the side the intense to bleach (top or bottom of the lampshade).
2) Place the tape where you want the first layer of paint to stop. You will need to repeat this step every time you change color tone.
3) Prepare the color you want, darker and compact as possible.
4) Paint the first, darker stripe.
5) Dilute the color with water, in order to become lighter, and paint the second stripe.
6) Repeat the previous steps as times needed, until the whole lampshade is painted. The last stripe should be almost white.
7) Let it dry, and if you aren't satisfied, repeat the process.

Gail Salminen on Oct 09, 2013@Joanna _ ARTbyJWP what a unique look you have created. It is absolutely stunning. Just wondering how you created the silver rectangles at the bottom of the shade, they really add to the character. Thanks for sharing.
