Cape Cod-style bathroom window replacement

My wife and I are looking to update our Cape Cod-style bathroom. We have the window in our shower and looking to upgrade. Does anyone have any experience in picking a window? Is vinyl or wood better? If we got a wood window, obviously we would varnish it because we want the blinds in-between the glass panes to give us more room in the shower. Please give me your thoughts. Thanks!!!

A number of years back I installed 12 window in my home remodel project. I went with metal clad wood for all but the two bath windows...those were vinyl with the exterior metal cladding to match. Wood in a high humidity environment is not a good idea. You can also look into frosted or textured glass for privacy.

Thanks for the reply. Even if I varnish the wood you still feel like vinyl is the better option?

The varnish will not hold up under daily use. Why not use glass blocks? They would be surrounded by tile and you would never have a problem.

The humidity also contributes to the wood windows swelling and shrinking on a regular basis...this is one reason why finishes do not last as long on wood surfaces.

Thanks for the responses guys. So basically you expect the vinyl to hold up better over a daily basis from the shower and humidity?

@Dan Kosko exactly. Normally I'm not a fan of vinyl anything due to its basic or "cheap" appearance. But in a bath low maintenance wins by a mile.

Sorry guys, just one more question. Would you choose vinyl over fiberglass?

Both are stable and water resistant...most manufacturers use vinyl. I do not see too many fiberglass ones in my travels but plenty of vinyl.
