Small Backyard Landscape

We recently purchased a new home and opted out of sod in our backyard. Instead, we are designing a new landscape that will be full of native plants and integrated veggies.
We've just gotten started, read more below.
This is the grand plan.
This is what is looks like ~ covered in weed cloth and rocks.
This is how we plan to handle yard slope and water channeling.
We plan to use mostly native plants with an integrated veggie garden.
I love outdoor firepits - cannot wait for this feature.
First Step: Install stone retaining walls.

Oh, my aching back!.. Don't forget the Desert Willow and Retuma. Both are native and seldom used here and both bloom all summer with no water. Don't forget to put leakers around your foundation. $40,000. is a lot to pay in house repair.
