Joy Ornament With Miniature Wreath

I know it is a little early to start talking about Christmas...but I love making ornaments - its our little family tradition...so I start early. This is the first one for this year...It is super simple to make and so cute! I seem to have become obsessed with the word Joy and substituting the O...but I like it, its cute, and I'm going to keep doing it!

This ornament is so easy to make. The suppies are easily accessible and there are still so many ways to personalize it too!

SUPPLIES: Pre-made wood ornaments, paint/paint brush (if using chalk paint, you might also want a creme wax, stencil (or preferred letter transfer method - I used my craft cutter), Miniature wreath, sand paper, thin ribbon or twine.

I stained my blank ornaments first to add some character (but this is optional). I used Jacobean stain because I like the contrast with the white paint. You can paint these ornaments too and skip the staining.

Prepare your stencil or transfer method and apply it to the ornament. I make stencils with my craft cutter, but you can also use stencils or letter stickers from a craft (or office supply store). Notice my O is still there in the the left - I keep it there for spacing but remove it before I paint.

Paint all over and let the ornament dry completely. I like chalk paint for this.

When dry, peel off the J and Y. Sand the ornament all over, especially the edges.

Wipe clean. I like to apply a creme wax to bring out the contrast of the wood.

Then add the miniature wreath using hot glue or another strong glue (E6000). Let dry.

Add some twine or a thin ribbon and get ready to hang them on your tree. Aren't they cute!? These are great ornaments but also gorgeous as an embellishment on a gift - think brown kraft paper adorned with these beauties.
