I have these decorative starbursts & I am not certain they would look good on plain white walls. My sectional is dark grey (closer to black) & my rug is grey with yellow in it.
These are the decor

    Yellow

I would use the gold/yellow color from the carpet to make them stand out.

Try them out on the different colors of your carpet (right on the floor) and see which color looks the best behind them.

Go to a light grey.....grey owl is a beautiful gray
  • Kathleen Kathleen on Nov 03, 2016
I agree with Tris Smith, yellow would bring it to life.
  • William William on Nov 03, 2016
I agree. A muted yellow would look good. It would tie the room together with starbursts.

i would personally go with with a soft silvery grey...so many options these days....and then even if you change furniture and such...could still go with almost everything....and then you could add a silverish theme tray to your ottoman...
  • Linda Linda on Nov 03, 2016
Love the rug! Try framing each one of them in silver frames with yellow or gray or black mats.

Thanks everyone for your input. I wasn't sure if a couple of you were suggesting I paint the walls, if so I don't want to paint because I rent not own.
    • Cindy Fahr-Webster Cindy Fahr-Webster on Nov 04, 2016
Paint just the wall that will have the starbursts on. Becoz most landlords allow this if u repaint before u move out. Make it an accent wall. :)

I totally think they would look good on a white wall! They would look really beautiful, actually
  • Gle11798005 Gle11798005 on Nov 04, 2016
I agree with Allison. They would look lovely on a white wall. They would really pop!
  • Fluffette Fluffette on Nov 04, 2016
Sure they would! Take a piece of white paper and place a few on it. It looks good right? Use them! You will love it!
  • Jim L Jim L on Nov 04, 2016
Go ahead and put them on the white wall. They will look great and cast some very interesting shadows.
  • Paddywagon Paddywagon on Nov 04, 2016
Try them and see if you like them! I think ANYTHING looks great on a white wall. Love your rug by the way.
  • Karen Karen on Nov 04, 2016
I think you'll find you like them even more on a white wall because they will show up better and provide more of a contrast. It will be beautiful!
  • Stephanie corley Stephanie corley on Nov 04, 2016
I agree. The contrast and shadowing will look terrific. If you wanted something more, intersperse them with photos or other items.

I would use a yello close to the soft yellow in the rug. But just that one wall. It would bring together all the elements in the room and make the yellow in the rug pop.
  • Barb Barb on Nov 04, 2016
Almost anything looks good on a plain white wall.

Any ideas on how to recycle used 2.5 oz cat food tins? I have hundreds of them.
  • Lyn Lyn on Nov 04, 2016
I think they'll look fabulous on a white wall. The colors will pick the shades of white and grey in the rug.
  • Cheryl Conidaris Cheryl Conidaris on Nov 04, 2016
I've used them on a cream colored wall and added oval gold/ brass framed multi sized mirrors with them. It came out great!

As to repaint, check with landlord but you may have to repaint when you move. Other options would be thumb tack squares of different colors on wall and then attach starbursts. Or picture frames with different back color. Or hang from ceiling (just slightly away from wall) with piece of fishing line/clear sewing thread so they can move in any breeze.
  • Cheryl Gearin Cheryl Gearin on Nov 04, 2016
    Yes, they would look great!
  • Sandra Allen Sandra Allen on Nov 04, 2016
To be sure, put one or two on a 2/1.00 poster board from the dollar tree. Or hang up a white sheet if you have it and try there. I think they would look good anywhere but I just love starbursts so there you go!!
  • Liz C. Liz C. on Nov 04, 2016
Better then they look on that wall. Love your rug !
  • Debbie motley Debbie motley on Nov 04, 2016
    Yes I think they would.

They would make a plain white wall POP!
  • Lucy Marie Bernier Lucy Marie Bernier on Nov 04, 2016
Try it on a white wall somewhere else in the house. Paint them black & gold maybe?
  • Marilyn witt Marilyn witt on Nov 04, 2016
Buy the poster board in a yellow to match what you have and thin black frame. Then hang your decorations together on the poster board. Then they can be on a white wall or any wall but what they are on.

What about putting them (all or some) in frames? Take the glass out and then paint the frames a contrasting color (maybe yellow or orange). Put the frames on the wall and then add the decorations. If you really wanted to snazz it up, you could add pretty scrapbook paper in the frame first. I'd just keep it muted so it doesn't outshine the decorations.

I would lay down a white sheet or whatever and take a look and then I would place them down on the grey part of carpet (go lighter grey) and decide from there. Love that carpet, your home looks beautiful with your choices.
  • Joy8061565 Joy8061565 on Nov 04, 2016
Please don't paint them black....they are already a beautiful color.
  • Karen Queck Stonestreet Karen Queck Stonestreet on Nov 04, 2016
You don't mention where you want to put them. If it is behind the couch, I feel they would just look like they are hanging in space. I don't think the result would be what you want. I think they need to be 'grounded'. I would use some old frames (use different sizes), paint them black, and hand them on the wall in whatever design you want. Then, add your starbursts into the frames. Be creative. For instance, you could put just one starburst in a frame in the lower right corner and leave the rest of the frame empty. Do it differently in another frame, and keep in mind, balance is everything.

I have the 3 spiky ones on a wood wall similar in color to your floor, however I was going to use them on my white walls. I love the 3 dimensional look, and the contrast in color would work since your rug has the same colors.

I think they would look nice on a white wall, but since they're all the same shape, I'd mix it up a little with some things of different shapes as well. A wall grouping of your 'bursts' with other items...pictures, sconces, small display shelves, etc. You may have the perfect things just sitting around waiting to be added.

Agree with joystark, put a white sheet down and arrange you pieces. I do this when contemplating changing decor. Love the carpet also has the same flower on my daughters comforter.
  • Rosy Rosy on Nov 04, 2016
Might try a wintery white paint (white paint with just a hint of gray) instead of a plain white. Might give a more subtle look. I would try and find some type decor with that color of yellow. Love your colors looks beautiful

For the larger ones, I suggest cutting six-sided or circular shapes two inches larger than the diameter of of the starbursts out of brown or black construction paper to use as background medallions. Cover the medallions with two or layers of polyurethane finish before using.

Anything goes with white, as white is an extremely neutral colour.
