A Trash Treasure Dresser Gets a Pretty New Face.

I bought this sad dresser from a salvage centre. She was pretty dinged-up, her skins were peeling off and needed new handles. As soon as I saw her I knew she needed a pretty face-lift and a bird to finish her make-over. Turned out pretty awesome!
Here she is after a lot of sanding and paint. I used homemade chalk paint for this piece: 2 cups paint, 2tbs water, 4 tbs Plaster of Paris. Dissolve Plaster of Paris in water then mix into paint.
She was a sad, sad piece.
Peeling skins and missing edges around the base. I filled with wood fill and used carpenter's glue to repair the lifting areas.
I filled all the previous handle holes because I wasn't sure I could find handles that fit the same. Note: I had bleed through from the previous stain and wood filler. I sprayed Zinsser Shellac over the dresser and painted right over.
After a lot of sanding I added this lovely little embellishment. I stenciled the bird on, let it dry and sanded it again to give it a faded look.
One final sanding to buff it up to a smooth glass finish. I used various grits of sand paper to get the paint smooth. The final sanding was 400 grit. I then waxed the piece to bring out the luster and details.
Found the perfect handles and she was complete.
