This is my first post on Hometalk. My friend's teenaged daughter got this dresser from another friend for $5 because she needed one - not that she liked it. It has good bones to my eye; so I offered to refurbish it for her. She said yes right away. The goal is to begin giving this teenager a more grown up look in her room. This is what I did.
This is how it looked when I brought it to my garage. I took all of the drawers out and began taking off the knobs, drawer pulls and handles. Yes...it had a mish-mash of all different pulls. Next, I began sanding, first using 100 grit sandpaper to get that stubborn and ugly stain off, then progressively finer sand paper for a smooth finish. You can't see it, but the drawer on the right (which is a top drawer) has this beautiful curve in it's shape.
After just 3 and a half hours of sanding, this is how it looked. Sooooooo much better already. The next step was to fill in all the holes in the dresser and drawers using wood filler. I let it dry overnight. The next day, I was able to sand down all of the wood filler spots until flush and smooth to the frames. Next, I measured and drilled all new holes in the drawers for the new glass knobs. I tack clothed and wiped everything down. Now... ready to paint.!!
Since this was for a young lady who's favorite color is hot pink...I decided to add this surprise and paint just the outside of the drawer frames hot pink. I primed each drawer with 2 coats of white primer before spray painting with 3 coats of hot pink - letting each layer dry in between. The final coat was a satin finish polycrylic. In between these drying, I primed the dresser base with 2 coats of white. Unfortunately, I do not have a picture of this step. The final color of this dresser is by Glidden called Perisian Pearl (a light gray). It is left over paint from another project.
After 2 coats of Perisian Pearl, 1 coat of polycrylic (for protection), and the new glass knobs - here is the diamond. Can you see the curve in the top drawers now?? BEAUTIFUL!! When I delivered the dresser to the young lady, she loved the "pop" of hot pink color when she opened the drawers. I am proud of this project, but more happy the young lady loves it!! The next project on the list is to build a headboard & footboard from reclaimed doors. Will post about that when I have them done.

Thank you. I had seen this idea on other crafting sites, so it's not my idea. But she is a fun young lady so I just thought this fit her personality. :)
