I have a kitchen cabinet door with six glass panes. I would like to make a simple cabinet box to attach to my door.
This is the cabinet door that I want to make a box for.

  • Use 1/2" birch plywood and pocket screws. Screws go in at hidden locations (i.e. @ top of the top shelf, bottom of the bottom shelf, and outsider sides of the sides at side back and front facing). The side (screws) should be hidden by 1/4" birch, or bead board, or a matching panel, after assembling the box - unless the cabinet sides will be hidden. Tip* Apply stained finish to the interior sides of the 1/2" pieces after drilling the pocket holes, but before screwing the box together.

Not sure what you want exactly. It sounds like you want to make a box to attach the door to. Simplest box would be to nail or screw several pieces of wood together. My husband and I made a few bookcases by just measure, cut, nail, and paint. I would recommend 3/4 to 1 inch plywood for sides, top and bottom. Back can be 1/4 inch. When laying out place sides between the top and bottom and put nails about 1 inch apart, driven straight through into the sides. Place shelves the same way and paint. May take two coats for best coverage. For extra security you can place small L brackets, from inside, to hold the shelves. Picture shows what looks like hinges that can be changed or replace with a new set. Line up door with side of box and mark where screw holes will go. Then drill a starter hole or use a nail slightly smaller than mounting screws. Then just slowly work in screws and watch to keep them straight.

I don't want to be mean because you did explain it clearly but your first line made me laugh. She asked "how can I make a simple box to attach a cabinet door to?" your answer- " Not sure what you want, it sounds like you WANT TO MAKE A BOX TO ATTACH A DOOR TO" (lol)
