Do all Loropetalums turn purple or red?

I just scored 3 Emerald Snow Loropetalums from the clearance rack at Lowes yesterday. I've already planted them. I've been wanting a loropetalum to add a different color to my landscape so you can probably imagine my confusion at no mention of the foliage turning colors in the information that I've been able to find online. :-( All it talks about is the dwarf growth habit and the white flowers. Please tell me this thing changes to red or purple in the winter? Anyone know? http://southernlivingplants.com/shrubs/plant/emerald_snow_loropetalum
My plants are this size with fewer flowers.

@Teresa - what you have picked up at Lowes (love their sales racks!) is another variety and will keep their color.

I have several purple and would like to have a couple of green w/ white too. I think they're really pretty. You can always return them. The purple are available in several sizes.

Thus the name, "Emerald Snow." Stays white and green, better performer in the shade, where the other varieties tend to pale out and have leaves yellow a bit.
  • Sorry, that variety stays green. For red/purple foliage in a dwarf loropetalum, look for "Purple Diamond" (4') and "Purple Pixie" (2')

I'll keep them. It's still a great deal. I got them for $4. It's just that I planted them where I would have wanted the purple color. Oh well, live and learn. There's still a little time left in the season. Maybe I will luck up on the ones I wanted before it gets too cold.

@Teresa D I have some reds and purples here :). But yes the one you purchased is a green variety and I think it is a beautiful one. It is my choice when going in front of a darker home or a red brick if the person is wanting to put in a Loropetalum. I like the Purple Diamond that Home and Garden design suggested. I also like the Purple pixie which is a dwarf almost ground cover variety, but I have found it to be a little more difficult to get to establish. I am currently liking the Everred variety which held color nicely through the summer (several varieties will go green in the summer) There are a ton of varieties with different hues of purple, red, burgundy which also have different mature heights, ranging from the pixie at 18" to ZhouZhou which I have seen get to 12 feet.

Exceptional plants. Love them. I only have the purple variety. So very hardy! 30 years ago I planted 4 in a little hexagon where I lived in Atlanta. The plants are over 30 feet tall now. Have turned into a fabulous privacy plant for the current homeowners. Massive. I've got both the compact variety and a couple regular size for the new house in Chatt. The regulars are in 2 pots until spring. The two compact flank our sidewalk.

I would love to have some white and green ones. I'm going to head to Lowe's today to see what I can find.

@Teresa D I used to work at Lowe's here in Texas, I always would check the clearance racks, We have had numerous shrubs and even some trees on there. At one time I got 4 topiary Hibiscus plants, stood about 4 ft tall, I paid $1.50 each, my yard looked like a tropical oasis by the time I eventually moved. Sad had to leave it all behind
