Easy Homemade Laundry Soap Made With Dawn

5 Minutes
Easy
Making your own laundry soap is a great way to save money. We've been using homemade laundry soap at our house for almost three years and are total converts! It's not hard to make your own laundry soap, but it can sometimes be tedious to grate the bars of soap needed for most recipes.
Sometimes when I want to speed things up, I use this mixture that requires no grating and instead uses Dawn dish soap. It does a fine job on laundry and goes together quickly and easily.
Use the link below to find the complete instructions on my blog.
Dawn dish soap can be used to make homemade laundry soap
You'll need washing soda, borax, and Dawn. You only need a little bit of each and your gallon of laundry soap will end up costing less than $1.00!
It's OK if the bubbles overflow when you're making your mixture.

Can you use this in HE washing machines?

  • AngelGlow AngelGlow on Feb 18, 2019

You stated that only a little bit of each of the ingredients is necessary. Kindly suggest the portions of each, please. Also, is it only the blue coloured Dawn that will do the job? Thanku

I can never get the borax to disolve

    • Really hot water helps dissolve the borax, as well as shaking the contents of the container around a bit to help mix it in before finishing up the rest of the recipe.

I put the soap in a large pot on stove and heat it while stirring until it completely dissolves. I fill my container with water just short of full. I dump that water into the pot on the stove and after everything is dissolved and cooled I pour it back into the storage container I use and it fills perfectly. Heating on stove outweighs pouring cup after cup of hot water hoping it’s hot enough and dissolves. Cook it on the stove and there is never any guessing.
