My kitchen walls are sage green and I need some ideas on what to paint my kitchen walls a different color. My cabinets are the same color trimmed in off white?

Shades of sage green seem to be the going color. I have my whole house painted shades of green except for the dining room which is chili red. Everyone seems to like the color combination including men and so do I. Another popular color is yellow. You could do a neutral color and then it will go with everything. Also, if you google Donald Gardner Home Plans there is a gallery of homes on there with pictures of all the rooms in each home. I got a lot of ideas from there when we build our house 4 years ago. Good luck.

That is a difficult question to answer as we are not you and color is a person thing to most people. So here are some tips I use. To get myself going on this kind of thing I always consider what colors that make me feel good/inspired or happy. I have to work to try to over think this part as there are so many colors to chose from. For you I would recommend you take some time to make notes of what colors you enjoy having around you first. Color is a very personal thing for people in general and what I like you may find annoying. (For me cool pinks and violet red colors are irritating colors I cannot live with but only in little bits so they never go on walls.) Now you can go to the paint store and look at some samples of those color families and not feel obligated to look elsewhere. Don't worry about fads either...they are called fads for a reason and colors change so quickly if you let that influence you it will be impossible to feel settled in your color choice knowing tomorrow it will change. Just chose what makes you feel good...it is your kitchen. Chose three colors that you like immediately. Course through the color chips and find ones that you like right away. Next get some samples of that paint to paint on the wall or they might have larger color chips you can stick on your walls and give yourself some time to see how it looks at different times of day. Paint colors actually morph some with lighting changes throughout the day and may not look like you expect them too in real life so this is a really great way to test them. Another thing I recommend doing is to go through magazines and find kitchens painted colors that you like and take inspiration from that. A little dreaming is a good thing too.
  • The best colour you can think for your kitchen should be something which is of lighter shade as lot of heat is being generated due to cooking/heating etc. So if you put some light colour the heat will be dissipated and the atmosphere will remain cool.

I like a orange with sage green. Get some samples and put against the cabinets!

I had the same question recently and went with a lighter shade of sage, it has really opened up the room and makes it look much larger. I did the trim in white just to clarify the light green.
